Dr. Hamilton is retired Emeritus Professor in Psychology and Neuroscience with secondary appointment in Psychiatry at Duke University. She is the recipient of Award for Excellence on the Geri-Behavioral (dementia) Unit, UTHSCSA, 2011, presented by the Director of the South Texas VA Medical Center. She received numerous awards in “Women’s Health” including an endowed chair at Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann University, Philadelphia, PA, where she was the first Director of the Women’s Health Institute.

Dr. Hamilton was advisor to the U.S. Public Health Service, NIMH, NICHD, NIDA, and American Psychological Association on various health topics. She was Clinical Associate, Neuropharmacology with 2-years post-residency psychopharmacology and neuroendocrine fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health Clinical Center, Bethesda, MD.

Dr. Hamilton held the Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Chicago. She completed psychiatry residency in 1981 at UNC Chapel Hill having also trained at the University of Chicago; and the NIMH – for a year-long psychopharmacology elective. She did her graduate work at the University of Chicago on an adult development and aging training grant and studied “Flow and Optimal Experience” with Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi.
