What’s your best self? What’s the best version of you? Not the perfect version or most successful, but the best. We often don’t ask ourselves this. Instead, we work towards achievement. We obsess over the finish line.
The best version of ourselves is more like a project of building a human rather than achieving something close to perfection. There is no perfection – it’s simply an ideal or an abstract target never meant to actually be reached.
If you look closely at a perfect, crisp black line on a white piece of paper, it’s not. The closer you zoom in, the more imperfections you see kind of like where the ocean meets the shore. Sound familiar?
Does the wave ever reach the sandy dunes and stop? The shoreline is never finished. Just like you, you’re n
ever really finished.
So what’s your best self? What’s the best version of you? Is it getting ok grades, eating crappy food, working out occasionally and smoking weed? Or do you find your best self somewhere else doing something else?
